Beypore Beach - Kerala
If you are bored with the mundane attitude of life and even more, can't find a place to relax, then no doubt Beypore beach is the right holiday destination for you. For centuries, the coastal strip of Beypore has been a famous ship-building centre. Its 'uru', the country craft built by traditional shipbuilders, locally known as 'khalasis', still has a swelling market and continues to pull Middle Eastern buyers from across the Arabian Sea. Beside being an economic focal point, Beypore is also famous as a maritime destination, thanks to a voluminous fishing harbour, located nearby. See the world from the western banks of India, and you will see how the life revolves on the podium that is made up of naivete and moistened by drops of marine culture.
It was the spices and wealth of Malabar that first brought the Arabs, the Portuguese, the Dutch and the English to Kerala. Now, the reason has changed, but still the western world crowd here to mess with the sands sprawled all over the terrain under the cobalt blue sky. Enjoy the pleasure of making sand castles, fight with the waves to save your foot prints, enjoy a few sips of coconut water..what else could make a leisure vacation more dramatic. Wrap yourself with the peace and serenity of the beach, hug the warm rays of the morning sun and gaze into the vast blue expanse of the Arabian Sea, rolling thunders on the breasts of shifting sands.
On the famous Bypore beach of Kerala, one can also visit the famous boat buiding yard. Get a close look on the proficiency with which these skilled craftsmen try their hands in making the world famous 'uru'. You can also buy miniature boats - made either from teak or coconut - from the Kairali Emporium in Kozhikode. It takes around 50 'khalasis' over a year to carve and shape an 'uru' out of teak and jackfruit timber. The best way to know the ebullient Arabian Sea, without touching it frothing waters, is to take a walk on the stone bridge that stretches out for about 2 kilometers into the heart of Arabian Sea. You will be mesmerised to behold the turquoise beauty of the sea, creating melodies with pulsating sea waves in this lovely tour destination of South India. No doubt, you will crave for more of the fun, and a boat ride into the sea with a local fisherman can only quench your thirst. Try your hands in fishing or just relax and marvel at the unmatched beauty of the gurgling seas - both of them will stuff your mind with enough memory to relish throughout your lifetime.
Cruise Through Beypore Backwaters - Beypore - Kerala
If you have taken up a bech tour in Kerala, then Bypore beach is the hottest place. Enjoy a backwater cruise to reach the picturesque Kappad beach, still young to speak of its great historic importance. Wander around the little stone monument and visit the temple believed to be 800 years old. The ancient relics truly speaks of the bygone glory of this little patch of land, situated south of Kozhikode. Unspoilt and uncrowded, apparantly, the alluring backwaters of Kozhikode offers a bewitching experience.
You can reach Beypore by a private cab or bus from Kozhikode, which is situated 10 km north of the city. Prefer to step down at the last bus stop, and walk past the skeletons of huge boats and old shops selling older, rusted anchors, until you reach the harbour at the mouth of the Chaliyar river. The nearest airport, however is at Karipur, 23kms from Kozhikode town, and is well connected by regular flights to Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and the Middle East.
