Look for the ancient coins and urns that still carry the forlorn aroma. Walking around the colossal stupas is a magnificent experience. Visit Sarnath to see the colossal Dhamek Stupa. Rising to a height of 43.6 m, the stupa is famous as Buddha conveyed his first sermon here. Some of the monasteries also houses curious museums which have interesting artefacts. The statue portraying Lord Buddha as preaching is worth viewing. You can also see the exquisite Ashokan pillar adorned bby four adorsed lions - unearthed from Sarnath. You will be amazed to see the huge statue of reclining Lord Buddha made in red sandstone at Kushinagar. Excavatated in 1876, the 6.10 m long Buddha represents the last phase of his life, reclining on his right side with his face turned towards the west. Tourists can also see the magnificent black statue of Buddha carved out of one block representing Buddha in the Bhumisparsh Mudra.
